American Airlines launched a new initiative to examine luggage in cooperation with customs and US border protection (CBP) to enhance the international passenger travel experience while ensuring support for security protocols.
The program, known as the IRBS, allows travelers who arrive in the United States from international airports chosen to overcome the process of traditional luggage claim.
Instead of recovering their luggage that was examined in the CBP Customs Hall and re -examining them to connect flights, the passengers will follow directly to the TSA checkpoint after surveying the CBP passport.
This initiative is designed to simplify communication times and improve travel efficiency in general without changing the current examination requirements.
“By taking advantage of advanced technology and working with Sydney Airport and our sellers partners, Bagcheck and Brock Solutions, we enhance safety and security while simplifying the CBP luggage examination to make global travel more suitable for our customers,” said Gary Thomasolo, Vice President of the US Airways for Global Security.
The experimental phase of this initiative will start this week on the daily road of US Airlines from Sydney Kingsford Smith to Los Angeles International Airport.
Both US Airlines and CBP expect the program to finally extend to additional cities.
This new program, along with the One Stop Security initiative launched for the airline in February, is part of the US Airlines goal to transform the international travel experience to its customers.
It is also part of the CBP airport update plan, which focuses on enhancing security experiences and travelers through the integration of advanced technology in the American Federal Inspection Stations (FIS).
“As part of our innovation efforts in air travel, CBP takes advantage of technology to enhance luggage inspections to increase insurance and simplify travel,” said CBP, Acting Assistant Commissioner of the Diane J. Sabatino.
“The international luggage examination initiative is an important step forward in updating our operations and providing a safe and smooth experience for international travelers.”
