Unforgettable: trip instructions work

“Are I supposed to pay you?”

I heard this independent CFI after completing the flight review of a customer who owns Cessna 182. CFI was a relatively low coach. He spent a little more than 2.5 hours with the customer and asked for $ 50, which was much lower than the owner of the C-182 who had spent him if he passed a flight school at the airport even using his own plane.

CFI arose at the airport. For many pilots, it was still “this child” who washed aircraft, planes cliff, and pumping gas for a few hours here and there are double instructions or flight. Since CFI only has a good reputation to get hours, the customer’s question was understandable.

CFI was having difficulty moving to a professional pilot, and he was not sure of the records he needed to keep, both for training and business. He pointed out that this part of being a coach was not covered in Persia. Learning should happen.

Training records

Keeping the books is a large part of its CFI, which is more than instructions – although this is where it begins. Regardless of whether you are working for your own account or working in an airline, you will need to track the approvals it provides, starting with proving the TSA of the required citizenship before submitting the trip instructions, or the first individual approvals, or approvals across the country, etc.

You may want to create a solid copy document for this or a digital file, or both. It is good to keep your own records because things are lost in aviation schools, and the person working and the person working does not know what is important and what is not.

Make sure to register all the double instructions provided, whether it is the land, the journey or AATD, in both the learner, your private record or a reliable record for each CFAR 61.51. Notice the time of each session as well as details about what has been covered. If you have a record – either for you or for learners – these notes can help you re -create or verify hours. Training records must be kept for three years. TSA support records for five years.

Payment and tax records

With creating applications such as Venmo, PayPal, etc., it is somewhat easy to send a request for payment and verification upon receipt. If you prefer money or trade (such as Dogfood bags, a cargo of firewood, or change the oil on your car instead of paying), keep the professor’s paid with this information as well.

When you work for your own account, you are basically a separate contractor and responsible for covering your tax. To protect yourself from unpleasant surprises, take everything you pay and put half aside to pay taxes. Many people who work for their own account choose a quarterly payment, not annually. Talk to a tax specialist about what is better for you.

Create llc

Depending on the laws in your city and country, to practice the pilot’s commercial certificate privileges, you may need to obtain business and commercial license. In some cases, the best option for you is a limited liability company (LLC). This allows you to protect your personal assets such as your bank account or your car, etc. You can find online information that is going to you through this, or prepare an appointment with a tax professional or a financial advisor.

It is extremely important to track the next funds and go out for your repetitive training, work cards, web management, additional certificates, classifications, experimental supplies, fuel rental and aircraft if appropriate. Don’t forget to calculate efficiency flights as work expenses along with your CFI ticket renovation account.

Ensure that there is a bank account with a personal account. Pay your salary.

Create work policies

Airlines customers are often asked to sign a “non -attendance” policy agreement. Basically, it states that the NSNC is not displayed/means that the client will be invalid, and it is usually a small part of the teacher/aircraft fees, and if there is a lot of these NSNCs, the customer is no longer permitted in the table.

Adel Warning: You can ask a customer to sign this agreement, and they may sign, but the assembly if there is no other story.

Find the area of the semester

One of the most difficult aspects of an independent CFI is to find space for ground lessons. It may be limited to initial and postflight, or there may be complete ground lessons on aircraft systems, air spaces and planning across the country.

If you think that the interior of the plane makes a chapter in poor chapters, wait for you to be in T-Hangar that are not enthusiastic in the winter. You may be able to make a deal with FBO to allow you to use its own conference hall at a longer sessions, such as a placebo, or you may find yourself preparing a store in the Starbucks corner. If you do the latter, buy some food, lift the berista, and shorten the sessions to no more than three hours. You may want to invest in the white blackboard with the size of travel and lessons of lessons.

Work for aviation school

If you choose to work in the aviation school, see your salary carefully. Although the employer is supposed to be out of taxes, it is up to employees to ensure that it occurs, which is the correct amount.

There are some airlines that pay CFIS less than the minimum wage with the concept that CFIS gains hours towards future jobs and this is a large part of compensation. Or they pay less for the ground instructions and more than the certificates of the top layer such as Multiengine or CFI. Find out what to expect your salary and verify it for the received amount.

Follow the watches that have been transferred and the floor that is presented and buyed, because there are some school owners who will withdraw (illegally) wages if they want to resign CFI or face a problem in making salaries.

If the school asks you to pay the price of renting aircraft for efficiency or currency flights, then track these expenses as well, as many schools offer a discount for its employees.
