Under UP: contemporary ceramics in the south, the Juried Cup show will be displayed in the introductory gallery. The exhibition, made by Takuro Shibata, will feature 46 unique cups and vessels, made by artists across the southeast including North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, Florida, Louisiana, Tennessee, and Kentucky. All work is sold, creating accessible ways for customers to add ceramic artwork to their collection.
About Takuro Shibata: Sakuro, a Japanese ceramic artist who currently lives in Seagrove, NC, acquired a Bachelor of Engineering in Applied Chemistry from Doshisha University in Kyoto, Japan. After graduating, he spoke under Hozan Tanii in Shigaraki, a famous pottery village. In 2005, he became Director of Starworks Ceramics in NC, where he dedicated himself to local clay research and the establishment of clay manufacturing facilities. At his home, Takuro and his wife, Hitomi, founded their pottery studio, Touya studio, and built a wooden tan. He actively participated in the exhibition, conducted a lecture, and taught workshops. He is also co -author of Wild Clay’s book. As a member of the International Ceramic Academy, Takuro has been featured in National and International Media, publications, and conferences.
