This digital public food poisoning accident is a living lesson for every traveler

This is a simple, right statistics. The more you travel, the more likely you will be a victim of food poisoning someday. And as we wear it as a badge of honor-Hey, this means we’re challenging our food choices, right?-We can all agree that when it happens, it is the worst. Just look at what happened to this Redditor, who shared their story as a warning to other tourists at Digital nomad subreddit.

“I feel very unbeaten. Two weeks of dense crushing street food in [Mexico City] without consequences. My thoughts are built different. Then, three days ago, the universe degraded me, “wrote the user.

They continued to explain that as they sat in a cafe in the Rosa Zone, they began to feel the stressful pressure in their stomachs.

“My thoughts just had to sneak in a naughty fart. And it didn’t release for more than 24 hours.” I spent a long time in the toilet I was considering giving it a name. ”

The traveler said that they suspected some of the food they had earlier that day could be the culprit, including “a seafood bowl that pinched Rappi (risky), two Tacos Al pastor I collapsed after Sunday night (the booth looked clean, with a designated person, sorry but suspected No. 1).”

And it looks like this traveler is far from alone. As of March 31, the post has more than 140 comments, with some mentioning it “basically a Rite Rite” with examples around the world.

“There, I thought I was good -well with most of the street food in China after a month of staying there, I finally got my stomach a second month,” said a reviewer. “Good memories.”

“Oh boy, let me tell you … I have a pizza for dinner in a small town in Peru that, in vision, has some suspicious sausages that don’t look well cooked at all,” added others. “Around 3am that night, all hell broke, I spent the rest of the night from my bed to the toilet, managing to reach almost all the time.”

And while sometimes it’s impossible to avoid, you can still take some steps to protect yourself from food poisoning as you travel the world.

“Food and drinks, especially in developing countries, can sometimes store germs and serious diseases such as cholera, typhoid and hepatitis A,” Grant Winter, compliance specialist in Welcome to Insurancetold Travel + free time. “More commonly though, tourists can experience food poisoning, with symptoms including vomiting and diarrhea, after drinking contaminated foods or drinks.”

According to Winter, it is advisable to drink bottled water when possible, “Even the internet tells you safe tap water to drink wherever you go.” Also, make sure the bottle lid is properly sealed before you drink it. And if you can’t find bottled water, just drink a pipe if it has been boiled or if you have used chlorine or iodine tablets to sterilize water.

Winter also adds that tourists need to be careful with all resorts included.

“When it comes to food, avoid eating cooked foods that have been left to survive without the lid for too long. Always aim to get to the whole buffet earlier in the dish rather than later to avoid foods that have been outside, and exposed to potential bacterial sources,” Winter said. He added, “It is also best to avoid food that has flyed around it, and just eating fruits and vegetables that you have peeled yourself to reduce the risk of pollution.”

Finally, Winter adds another critical point: Avoid ice at all costs.

“Don’t forget about the risk of ice cubes in your drink,” he said. “In many cases, this may be made from untreated tap water (however, some large resorts use bottled water, so they are always worth checking), which can cause you to be sick.”

However, it’s not all in the food organization or hotel to make you healthy. You also need to take personal responsibilities.

“While it may be clear, personal hygiene should be a priority number one overseas to help prevent poisoning and food pollution,” Winter said. “Always wash your hands after the toilet and before eating or preparing food, and make sure you take alcohol -based gel for use when you go out and before eating.” If not, you will be at risk of being a Reddit warning story.
