At the heart of the new National Monument is Perkins Family Homestead, a 57-acre property along the Damariscota River in southern Maine. The ground covers the Perkins family home of 1837 called brick houses, as well as barns, garden trails and wooded walking trails.
The nonprofit Frances Perkins Center purchased the site from Perkins descendants in 2020 and donated 2.3 acres of land, including buildings and trails, to park services.
The brick house has currently undergone restoration projects for visitors and is therefore closed for visitors. The building is expected to reopen in summer 2025.
