The cheapest foreign city in the world reveals – because British cities don’t even make the top 30

A survey shows that the cheapest and most expensive cities are expats, with top vacation destinations ranked the cheapest.

The results are from surveys conducted by foreign networks internationalityThis requires people living abroad to rate their lives based on several key personal finance factors.

Cheapest cities for expats

Valencia

Valenciaexist SpainThe sunny Costa Blanca coastline is the official cheapest city as an expat.

Three-quarters (77%) of the expats living there are satisfied with their financial situation, which is above the global average of 54%.

More than six out of one-tenth (61%) said their disposable income was “enough to live” and could live a comfortable life, significantly above the global average of 41%.

“I like that I don’t have to worry about my own cost of living, whether it’s housing or health care,” an expat in the United States told International.

Panama City

The capital of Panama City ranks second on the list. More than three quarters (76%) of the expats living there are happy with their financial situation.

Disposable income is often a long way in Panama, with over 9 (91%) of 10 expats having enough to live a comfortable life.

It is also a popular retirement destination, with 10% of expats saying they moved to Panama City for golden hours.

“I love a peaceful, affordable life,” Jamaican expat told the international.

Malaga

Spain ranks in the top three, and the coastal cities of Malaga are also the cheapest destination for foreigners.

Seven out of 10 (72%) of expats are satisfied with the cost of living in the city.

38% describe themselves as “completely satisfied” with their financial situation.

The most expensive city for expats

Vancouver

On the other side of the scale, Vancouver is the most affordable city.

Nearly 9 of 10 (88%) expats think Vancouver is too expensive, and 65% say their disposable income is not enough to live a comfortable life.

Less than half (48%) of expats believe that the cost of living in Canadian cities is “very bad.”

“Life is expensive, especially housing. You need extra money to socialize,” a Turkish expat told International.

Toronto

Another city in Canada is the second most expensive city to live as an expatriate. More than half (53%) of expats living in Toronto are not satisfied with their financial situation.

About one in five (81%) of foreign residents think the city is too expensive.

Spanish expats told the survey: “Living is expensive. Eating out or drinking feels like a luxury. Overall, it’s impossible for me to have my social lifestyle in Germany or Spain.

More than half (56%) of those surveyed said their disposable income was not enough to live a comfortable life.

London

London Ranked as the third most expensive city for expats, with one in 10 (70%) describing the cost of living for big smoke as too high.

Nearly two-fifths (39%) were not satisfied with their personal financial status in London.

Less than half (46%) said their disposable income was not enough to live a comfortable life.

“I want our salary to match the cost of living,” an American expat told International.

Dublin also ranks the most expensive foreign cities, falling outside the top three.

Oslo, Munich, Singapore, Auckland, New York and Paris are also difficult for foreign residents’ wallets.

On the other hand, three Spanish cities rank in the top 10 of the cheapest attractions, with Alicante joining Valencia and Malaga tops.

Mexico City, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Ras Al Khaimah, Warsaw and Vienna are also great options for expats looking for an affordable cost of living.
