Airport owners say travelers can now leave items like liquids and laptops in their secure luggage.
The airport said it was part of its plan to “change” Gatwick’s safety screening process.
“More than 95% of passengers have passed the safety London Gatwick in five minutes.
“This is a positive change, and the scanner makes it easier for our passengers to travel through the airport.
“As we grow, our top priority is passenger safety and airport safety.
“This cutting-edge technology ensures a safe and robust experience for our passengers.”
But while passengers no longer need to put it in plastic bags, the liquid is still less than 100 milliliters in size.

Liquids include products such as creams, gels, sprays, pastes and aerosols.
A Gatwick spokesman also warned passengers that other airports in the world may not have adopted new technology.
“So, when returning from other destinations, the one-liter transparent plastic bag rules and the 100 ml liquid container limit may still apply,” they said.
Gatwick is not the first British airport to introduce new rules.
Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, Leeds Bradford, Luton, Newcastle, Southend and Teesside have set new rules.
