But a new study of the world’s most affordable five-star hotels has found rare exceptions outside the capital.
Global research by the Consumer Advocacy Group identified Roseate Reading, the most affordable five-star hotel in the UK – a short train from the London Elizabeth route.
The study compared the rates for five-star properties in 76 countries, filtering out all hotels under 10 or below 8 points to ensure that only top-level accommodation can be cut.
Rooms start at £135 per night and include breakfast, Roseate Reading offers a piece of luxury without breaking the bank.
The hotel is just a short walk from Reading Station and is directly linked to London via the Elizabeth Line.
Located in a Class II listed building dating back to 1911, the property still has many original features including marble floors, vaulted ceilings, large fireplaces and columns.

Outside the hotel, guests can enjoy the infinity pool in the “tropical greenery”. Visitors describe it as an “incredible resort.”

The hotel includes a “turnaround service”, a concierge service, a hot tub, sauna and gym, and a fine restaurant that includes “waiters for silverware, candlesticks, baroque furniture and vests”.
One vacationer said the hotel offers an “experience at an affordable price” in the review.
When it comes to resorts on the hills, the Suites Plaza Hotel and Wellness Andorra ranked first, with rooms only £107 per night.
Which one? Explained that the hotel is just 15 minutes from Vallnord’s ski slopes, it also has a wellness center with “sauna, indoor pool, gym and family-friendly spa”.
The hotel has three restaurants and one guest describes breakfast as “outstanding”.
