Switzerland company MSC Cruises recently announced the purchase of two new ships to add to a world-class fleet. The Cruises, now identified as world class 5 and world class 6, will be powered by liquid natural gas (LNG).
Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman, MSC Cruises, declared:
Confirmation of orders for two new world -class ships mark a new event on our extraordinary journey of shipbuilding in France and the continuity of our long -term industrial plan.
LNG has been considered a valuable alternative to other standard fossil fuels in combating climate change. However, experts show that methane leaks may be more dangerous than previously thought.
Unfortunately, data from different sources often conflicts, and getting accurate information on this issue can be challenging. That says, with the right technology, leakage can be drastically reduced. In this case, new vessels will feature dual-fuel internal combustion engines, with advanced technology to reduce methane slip.
