- Getting there is relatively easy, compared to other Costa Rican locales. The resort is about a 1.5-hour drive from Liberia International Airport

About the Destination
Flights are not included in this deal. However, Daniel Oduber Quirós International (LIR) is approximately a 90-minute drive from the hotel and has nonstop and one-stop flights from multiple U.S. cities. Guests are responsible for arranging transportation to and from the airport, as transfers are not available through the hotel.

Overall a pleasant stay, but not without flaws.
The resort made a good impression, though it feels slightly tired in places. We booked an ocean view room, which was spacious and delivered on the promised view. Everything was clean, and the staff was friendly—though at times a bit forgetful, so a gentle reminder might be needed here and there.
The location is quite remote. It’s about an hour and a half drive from Liberia Airport, with the last two miles on a very bumpy, unpaved road—which seems unacceptable given the resort’s price point.
Keep in mind that the Guanacaste region is drier than other parts of Costa Rica, with less jungle and wildlife.
Overall, not the best value for the money. At a regular rate of $1,000 per night, you’d expect service and amenities on par with a Four Seasons—but this fell short.

Service was slow at Tamarine, which is where I ate my first meal there. Also the servers at the buffet breakfast that was included were slow and pushy for me to leave. They left the bill ages before I was done with my plate. It’s a beautiful property but you have to practically fight to get anywhere when you’re emailing for menus.

Exceptional resort. Warm and well trained staff made our stay remarkable. Worth the 90 minute drive from the airport. Quiet, relaxing and upscale experience. Definitely hope to return.

My stay here was perfect. The grounds are beautiful, the staff is attentive, the dinner restaurants were better than I had anticipated, and even during the rainy season in October we only had a sprinkle each day and plenty of sun. Off-season also meant there were plenty of shaded loungers at the pool, seating in restaurants, and never a wait for anything. I was recommending the resort to friends before I left and would love to return in the future.

The JW was beautiful with splendid gardens and a lovely beach for walking and looking at.
The sunsets were glorious and the prices are very reasonable for the high end property
