Artificial intelligence has changed many aspects of the travel, and now it reshapes the rental car experience.
Hertz is partnering with a company called Ufulye to check rental cars before and after rent with the help of artificial intelligence. “By changing how vehicles are evaluated and maintained, Hertz is building a more transparent, reliable, and technologically technologically for car rental with the basics,” the companies said in a statement shared with TPG.
The new AI-AI check is underway at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta (ATL) International Airport.
Car rental passes through the AI-Enabled structure that uses cameras and machine learning algorithms to check the body, glass, tires and undercarriage of the vehicle.
You just drive the car through the tunnel to get a full scan when you release it.
“The uveye tire treadwear system captures high-resolution images analyzed immediately to determine whether tires require replacement, reducing the need for manual inspection and ensuring timely proactive services,” the company said.
Customers will receive a detailed report on the condition of their car when they take it and when they release it, so there should be more transparency in the process.
Simply put, this means that drivers no longer have to take videos and pictures of their rental car during pickup -something I just had to do when I rented a car from Hertz in Kona, Hawaii.
Of course, this also raises concerns that consumers can eventually be charged for more potential damages for a glance from the company’s rental employees may have overlooked in the past. We have to wait to see if that is over. So far, there have not been many reports on such issues.
