Four Austrian B777-200ers is now equipped with Aeroshark


Austria Airlines has completed the Aeroshark Surface technology on four of its aircraft in Boeing 777-200ER, making it the first in the world that features this dynamic aerobic innovation on this type of plane.

It was developed by Lufthansa Technik in cooperation with BASF, a emulator surface that mimics the structure of Sharkskin. The film consists of a thin pipeline – known as Riblets – a length of about 50 micrometers, and the film improves air dynamics by reducing frictional clouds on the surface of the plane.

Each plane is applied to the fuselage and the engine, each plane was equipped with about 830 square meters of Aeroshark. The result: a decrease in about 1 % in fuel consumption per trip.

Through the modified four Boeing 77S, Austrian Airlines expects to provide about 2650 metric tons of fuel and reduce more than 8,300 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions by 2028 – equivalent to about 46 flights between Vienna and New York.

This teacher follows the successful expansion of the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), which now includes Boeing 777-200Eer.
