A super rare display of the Northern Lights took place in 18 states tonight – see them here

If you’re in the north of us with a clear night sky for the next few days, don’t miss the chance to look up – you might just capture the most spectacular light show on Earth.

NOAA’s Space Weather Forecast Center has been released G3 (Strong) Geomagnetic Storm Watch On Tuesday night, the foundation was laid for Auroras, leaving it spread across 18 states. The potential light show is provided by two powerful CMEs (Crown Mass Popup), which were popped by the sun on April 13 and will fall into the Earth’s magnetic field for the next 24-48 hours.

Tonight, up to 18 states in the northern United States can enjoy the amazing light of Aurora, mainly viewing Alaska, northeastern Montana, northern North Dakota and northern Minnesota.

Further south, states like Illinois, New York, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine, have a smaller but still great opportunity to spot lights glowing on the horizon. Predicting the exact impact of these storms is tricky, so it’s worth a look at the sky anyway.
