The trip is only easier for passengers flying from Australia to South California.
American Airlines on Tuesday announced a new initiative with US customs and border protection that would allow passengers to skip luggage that took time at the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)-a process connected by passengers between international flights and connections.
It is just the latest in a series of major changes that can shake travel experience after international flights, which can save passengers’ time in some of the largest airports in the country.
New benefits after flight from Sydney
The United States announced on Tuesday that flight passengers from Sydney Airport (SYD) to their LAX hub – and then connected to other flights – would see their luggage checked directly to the flight later.
These changes will eliminate sequences that often disappoint the passengers often face after international flights.
Usually, passengers who arrive from abroad must knock, go through passport control, wait for their bag out and check again. Later, they need to continue the transportation safety administration checkpoint to recover, as if they had just arrived at the airport like local passengers.
The new program announced this week for Sydney’s American flights from Sydney will not eliminate the last-less, at least, but tourists on other flights may see the change soon.
Skipped a feared rescreening
Some airlines – including America – are now in the final stages of preparation for programs that will eliminate both rescreen bags and Security reviews passengers connecting in two major hubs after flights from Heathrow London Airport (LHR).
This “One Stop” Trial Safety Program can be launched by Midsummer, TPG has studied, which includes passengers from LHR connecting other flights at the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL).

“For us, it’s huge,” Gary Tomasulo, chief of American security officer, told TPG earlier this month.
The move came a few months after Atlanta and Dallas passengers in America, Delta Air Lines and other airlines had gained the same freedom while connecting in London. The change has saved tourists up to 45 minutes During connection in HeathrowAirline estimates.
Testing 1-Stop Security Setup
Once the concept of this one step is launched, this means a set of easier procedures for passengers connecting to the ATL or DFW after a flight from LHR. American flight passengers from LHR to DFW will be welcomed by two correct GST officers as they knock, Tomasulo told TPG.
“We will have two GST officers at the gate,” Tomasulo said. “Those who connect passengers will be broken down into two groups: US citizens [and] non -US citizens. “
Assisted by GST face -to -face comparison technology, the agents will process passengers in the scene. Then, the passengers will be free to go to their flights – with the checked luggage moving just like domestic flights.
Tomasulo said the same concept would also be provided to passengers flying from LHR to DFW in British Airways, an American Alliance partner.
Delta spokesman told TPG it worked with US and UK government officials to finalize the same one-stop security protocol at Atlanta Base in Atlanta-which would also be used for ATL tourists with the next connection of London at Delta’s Skyteam Alliance Partner, Virgin Atlantic (Atlantic Atlantic, Atl-Bound British Airways).
Disadvantages: Global entry
One of the significant weaknesses in the preparation of new American security is that, according to Tomasulo, there are no plans for the accelerated global entry line. However, the bearer expects the end-to-final process that will still be time savings, even for passengers who pay a quick trip through customs.
“A few minutes at the entrance,” Tomasulo said. “But you keep it for 45 minutes, an hour, an hour added, on the contrary.”
The hope of expansion
This new and simple arrival process is the year in manufacturing, due to extensive cooperation among airlines, GST, TSA and agencies overseas.
The program seems to have expanded to more airports-here and abroad-in a not far away.

The United States on Tuesday said, along with GST, expecting to expand the smooth bag transfer that started its debut in LAX this week to another airport. Assuming that more one -stop security attempts goes smoothly on DFW and the ATL, the airline hopes to expand the security -free connection to other major hubs as well.
“If it works as well as we expect to work at DFW and Atlanta, it will grow to another location in the United States – at least from Heathrow,” Tomasulo said. “We will grow to all our hubs in the future.”
Hope to finally see a one -stop protocol expanding to more flights to and from a longer international airport list. As reported by TPG last year, in 2022, the Congress directed the TSA to partner with up to six international partners on this smooth trial program, with a focus on pairs with countries with air travel protocols comparable to TSA.
“We see a number of different countries. We are at different levels of different countries,” former TSA administrator David Pekoske, who ended January, told me last September.
This means that we may see this benefit covering the increasing number of airlines. For example, United Airlines told TPG it was also in discussions with TSA and GST on a one -stop safety solution.
This is a simplified new protocol – the year in manufacturing – comes like the US recently saw steep drop-off In the number of international tourists visiting the US
