Cape Air Backfills Jetblue’s Route Boston-Long Island in 5-Route expansion


Cape Air regional flights are filling the gap recently abandoned by Jetblue Airways at the Macarthur Long Island Airport (ISP), part of the broader five-route expansion this summer.

The airline will connect ISPs with Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) four times a day starting July 3, Cape Air said in a statement. The flight will be operating on the new Tecnam P2012 Tour Tourist.

The ISP is about 1 1/2 hours of East Times Square driving in Manhattan.

Jetblue launched Boston-to-Long Island, New York route in April, just to hang it less than two weeks later. The airline continue to serve Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), Orlando International Airport (MCO) and Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) from ISP.

Cape Air is a jetblue partner, and tourists can get Trueblue Loyalty points on Cape Air flights booked through the JetBlue website.

However, the new Long Island flight Cape Air has not been protected by the partnership.

Cape Air also added four new routes, including a new airport, to its New England map. On June 13, the airline launched a seasonal weekend service between North Westchester County Airport (HPN) North New York City and Provincetown Municipal Airport (PVC). The route is the only non-stop between New York Airport and a popular Cape Cod destination.

On July 3, Cape Air will land for the first time at the Norwood Memorial Airport (OWD) on the Southwest Boston suburb. It will offer seasonal summer flights to Vineident Martha (MVY) and Nantucket Memorial Airport (ACK).

And on September 29, Cape Air will connect New Bedford Regional Airport (EWB) in Massachusetts and bosses twice daily. The flight is included in the airline’s partnership with JetBlue and can be booked on the last website.

With a new route, Cape Air will fly about one -third of June, July and August seats in New England compared to last year, scheduled data from the Featured Aviation Analysis firm showing. The airline’s schedule is also about 10% greater than in the same period in 2019.

Here are the details of Cape Air’s new route:

  • Boston-Long Island: Four flights daily from July 3
  • Boston-New Bedford: twice daily flights throughout the year from September 29
  • Norwood-Martha Vineident: A daily flight Thursday to Monday from July 3 to October 13
  • Norwood-Nantucket: A daily flight Thursday to Monday from July 3 to October 13
  • Westchester-Provincetown: Two daily flights from Thursday to Monday from June 13 to October 14
